DETAILS AND CARE

Yellow Geiger Tree in 25-Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL

Bright, bold, and built for Florida—the Yellow Geiger Tree (Cordia sebestena var. aurea), also known as Golden Geiger, is a flowering tropical treasure that lights up landscapes with sunshine-yellow blooms nearly year-round. Native to the Caribbean and well-suited for coastal areas, this tree thrives in heat, resists salt, and attracts pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds. With its vibrant color and easy-going nature, it’s a landscape centerpiece that delivers high impact with low effort.

This 25-gallon size offers a strong, well-branched tree ready to shine in larger garden beds, coastal yards, or curbside focal points.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

  • Sunlight: Requires full sun—at least 6–8 hours daily for best flowering.

  • Watering: Low to moderate. Drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly until well-rooted.

  • Soil: Prefers sandy, well-drained soil. Tolerates poor soil and coastal conditions well.

  • Fertilizer: Apply a slow-release flowering tree fertilizer 2–3 times per year. Avoid over-fertilizing.

  • Growth Habit: Upright small tree with a rounded canopy and textured gray bark. In a 25-gallon pot, it may be 5–8 feet tall, eventually reaching 12–25 feet in-ground.

  • Temperature: Best suited for USDA Zones 10–11. Heat and salt-tolerant. Can tolerate light frost once established but may drop leaves temporarily.

  • Maintenance: Low. Prune lightly to shape and remove dead wood. Flowers cleanly—less messy than many tropical bloomers.

Flower Notes:
Clusters of trumpet-shaped yellow flowers bloom most of the year, especially in spring and summer. Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Flowers stand out beautifully against large, leathery, dark green leaves, giving the tree a tropical look even when not in bloom.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:
Primarily ornamental. While the tree is not used for food or medicine, some cultures use Cordia species in traditional remedies. Not edible and not known for medicinal consumption in modern landscapes.
