DETAILS AND CARE

Slash Pine Tree in 25-Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL

Fast-growing, deeply rooted, and full of Florida heritage—the Slash Pine (Pinus elliottii) is a native pine species that brings vertical drama, ecological value, and rustic beauty to South Florida landscapes. With long, feathery needles and tall, straight trunks, Slash Pines grow quickly and adapt well to poor soils, making them a favorite for restoration projects, windbreaks, and naturalized plantings. They also support wildlife by offering shelter and food for birds, squirrels, and pollinators.

This 25-gallon size provides a sturdy young tree, ready to anchor large yards or native-inspired gardens.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

  • Sunlight: Full sun is essential—minimum of 6–8 hours daily for healthy upward growth.

  • Watering: Low to moderate. Once established, Slash Pines are drought-tolerant and thrive in sandy or dry soils.

  • Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Tolerates acidic, low-nutrient soils with ease.

  • Fertilizer: Rarely needed. If desired, feed with a low-nitrogen fertilizer in spring to support early growth.

  • Growth Habit: Tall, upright tree with sparse lower branching and a high canopy. In a 25-gallon pot, expect 5–7 feet tall; mature trees can reach 60–100 feet.

  • Temperature: USDA Zones 7–10. Strong performer in Florida’s heat and humidity. Wind- and salt-tolerant.

  • Maintenance: Very low. Naturally self-pruning; remove only damaged limbs or lower branches if needed.

Foliage Notes:
Long, soft needles (8–12 inches) grow in bundles of two or three, giving the tree a wispy, elegant silhouette. Needles are shed gradually and create a natural mulch around the base.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:
Slash Pines have been used in traditional remedies for respiratory support, wound care, and as a natural antiseptic from the resin. The inner bark and pine needles contain vitamin C and compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidantproperties—though modern use is primarily ecological and ornamental.
