DETAILS AND CARE

Blue Rubber Tree in 25-Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL

Sculptural, striking, and totally tropical—the Blue Rubber Tree (Ficus elastica ‘Blue’ or Ficus elastica with bluish foliage) is a bold statement plant with dramatic broad leaves and a powdery blue-green hue that instantly elevates any landscape or patio. Known for its architectural presence and low-maintenance nature, this evergreen beauty thrives in South Florida’s warmth and humidity, bringing both structure and color to modern gardens and container plantings.

This 25-gallon size offers a well-established tree ready to anchor a space with style and substance.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

  • Sunlight: Best in bright indirect light to partial sun. Can tolerate full morning sun but appreciates filtered light in the afternoon.

  • Watering: Moderate. Let top 1–2 inches of soil dry out between waterings. Avoid waterlogged roots—good drainage is essential.

  • Soil: Rich, well-draining soil preferred. A mix with organic matter and sand or perlite works best.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid or slow-release fertilizer every 2–3 months during the growing season for vibrant foliage.

  • Growth Habit: Upright, columnar growth with thick, leathery leaves and a strong central stem. In a 25-gallon pot, expect 5–7 feet tall; in-ground, it can eventually reach 30–50 feet if unpruned.

  • Temperature: Ideal for USDA Zones 10–11. Cold-sensitive—protect from temps below 40°F.

  • Maintenance: Low. Prune to shape or control size. Wipe leaves occasionally to keep that bluish sheen shining.

Foliage Notes:
The standout feature is the foliage—thick, oval leaves with a soft blue-gray cast that adds cool-toned contrast to warm tropical palettes. New growth emerges with a slight reddish blush before settling into a matte blue-green finish.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:
Not edible. The sap (latex) has historically been used in rubber production, but is not suitable for home use. Mildly toxic if ingested and can cause skin irritation—best kept out of reach of curious pets and children.
