Monroe Avocado Tree in 15-Gallon Pot Available in Jupiter, FL

The Monroe Avocado (Persea americana 'Monroe') is a South Florida classic—known for its large, glossy green fruit, exceptional cold tolerance, and late-season harvest that keeps the guacamole flowing well into winter. With creamy, mild flavor and a firm texture that holds up beautifully in slicing, the Monroe is a reliable workhorse in any tropical or subtropical garden.

This fast-growing tree thrives in our heat and humidity and is among the best avocado options for growers looking to extend their season and enjoy a harvest after most other varieties have finished. The 15-gallon pot holds a strong, ready-to-establish young tree ideal for planting in-ground or keeping on a sunny patio until transplanting.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

Sunlight: Full sun—6 to 8 hours daily. Requires strong light to produce abundant fruit and healthy growth.

Watering: Moderate. Water deeply and consistently, especially during dry spells or fruiting. Let topsoil dry slightly between waterings.

Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Enrich with compost and organic matter. Avoid planting in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.

Fertilizer: Apply a balanced avocado fertilizer 3–4 times per year. Supplement with magnesium and micronutrients like zinc during active growth and fruit development.

Growth Habit: Upright and spreading. Reaches 20–30 feet tall and wide in-ground but can be pruned for manageability. 15-gallon trees typically stand 4–6 feet tall.

Temperature: USDA Zones 9b–11. Excellent cold tolerance down to the high 20s°F when mature—great for inland South Florida gardens.

Maintenance: Moderate. Prune annually to maintain size and improve air circulation. Keep an eye out for scale and lace bugs; neem oil and regular maintenance keep them in check.

Harvest & Seasonality:

Planting Time: Ideal for spring or early fall planting in South Florida, but can be installed year-round with consistent care.

Harvest Time: November through January. Monroe is one of the latest-ripening avocados grown in Florida.

How to Harvest: Pick fruit when fully grown and allow it to ripen off the tree indoors. Fruit does not soften on the tree.

Seasonal Notes: Excellent choice for late-season production. One of the few avocados that can be harvested around the holidays in South Florida.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:

Monroe avocados are rich in fiber, heart-healthy fats, potassium, and Vitamin E. Their mild flavor and creamy texture make them versatile and easy to digest. Like all avocados, they’re anti-inflammatory, support cardiovascular health, and contribute to glowing skin and brain function.
