DETAILS AND CARE

Marconi Pepper (Capsicum annuum) – 4–5 Inch Pot
Available in Jupiter, FL. at Urban Abundance.

The Marconi Pepper is a garden classic for good reason—long, glossy, and incredibly sweet when ripe. These Italian-style peppers grow up to 8–12 inches long and deliver exceptional flavor when grilled, roasted, or eaten fresh. A member of the Solanaceae family, Marconi is classified as a warm-season fruiting annual vegetable, ideal for South Florida’s fall-to-spring growing window.

Offered in a 4–5 inch pot, this starter plant is ready for transplanting into raised beds or large containers. With consistent care, it will produce heavy yields of sweet red, yellow, or green peppers all season long.

Sunlight Needs: Full sun—at least 6–8 hours daily for best fruit development and flavor.
Watering Needs: Moderate. Keep soil evenly moist but not wet. Deep watering encourages strong root growth.
Soil Requirements: Rich, well-draining soil with compost added. Prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0).
Growth Habit: Upright and bushy. Grows 24–36 inches tall; may benefit from staking as fruits grow heavy.
Fruit Timing: Begins producing 70–90 days after transplant. Harvest when fruit reaches full size and desired color.
Cold Tolerance: Not frost-tolerant. Best planted in fall for cool-season growth in South Florida.
Special Features:

  • Thick-walled, sweet fruit—great for grilling or slicing

  • High-yielding with consistent harvesting

  • Easy to grow in containers or small gardens

  • Loved by home chefs and market growers

South Florida Notes: Marconi Peppers thrive in South Florida’s cooler, dry season when pest and disease pressure is lower. Plant in well-ventilated areas and fertilize every few weeks to support large, flavorful fruit.

Next steps after purchase:

  • Transplant into a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil

  • Water regularly and mulch to retain moisture

  • Fertilize every 3–4 weeks with an organic vegetable fertilizer

  • Harvest continuously to encourage new fruit

  • Monitor for aphids or whiteflies—treat early with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed

This is a warm-season fruiting annual—meaning it produces fruit in one growing season and needs to be replanted each year.
