Lula Avocado Tree in 7-Gallon Pot Available in Jupiter, FL

The Lula Avocado (Persea americana ‘Lula’) is one of South Florida’s most trusted and widely planted avocado varieties. Originally selected in Homestead, Lula is known for its dependable production, excellent cold tolerance, and rich, creamy flesh with higher oil content than many Florida types. It’s a late-season variety, meaning you’ll enjoy homegrown avocados well into fall and early winter.

In a 7-gallon pot, this grafted Lula Avocado tree is well-established and on track for reliable fruiting—an ideal size for transplanting into your landscape or growing in a large container.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

Sunlight: Full sun—at least 6 to 8 hours daily for strong flowering and fruit set.

Watering: Moderate. Water deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry. Maintain consistent moisture, especially during flowering and fruit development, but avoid soggy soil.

Soil: Well-draining sandy or loamy soil enriched with compost. Lula performs well in South Florida’s native soils but requires excellent drainage.

Fertilizer: Apply a citrus or avocado fertilizer 3–4 times per year. Supplement with micronutrients like magnesium, iron, and zinc—particularly important in sandy soils.

Growth Habit: Vigorous and upright with a rounded canopy. In-ground trees can reach 20–30 feet if unpruned but can be managed with annual shaping. In a 7-gallon pot, expect a height of approximately 3–5 feet.

Temperature: USDA Zones 9b–11. One of the more cold-tolerant Florida avocados—mature trees can tolerate temperatures down to approximately 25°F.

Maintenance: Moderate. Prune after harvest to maintain structure and airflow. Apply mulch around the base (without touching the trunk) to protect shallow roots and retain moisture.

Harvest & Seasonality:

Planting Time: Best planted spring through early fall for strong root establishment.

Harvest Time: Late season—typically November through January in South Florida.

How to Harvest: Pick when fruit reaches mature size. Lula avocados ripen off the tree in 5–7 days at room temperature.

Fruit Characteristics: Medium to large pear-shaped fruit with smooth, glossy green skin. Flesh is creamy, slightly higher in oil content, and rich with a nutty flavor. Excellent shelf life compared to many Florida avocados.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:

Lula avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, potassium, fiber, folate, and Vitamin E. They support cardiovascular health, promote satiety, and provide sustained energy and anti-inflammatory benefits.
