DETAILS AND CARE

Live Oak Tree in 65-Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL

Strong, sprawling, and steeped in Southern charm—the Live Oak Tree (Quercus virginiana) is the backbone of many iconic Florida landscapes. Known for its wide, shady canopy and gnarled, picturesque limbs, this native evergreen oak is ideal for creating legacy spaces. It supports wildlife, resists hurricanes, and thrives with little fuss once established. With time and space, it becomes a living landmark, offering beauty and shade for generations.

This 65-gallon tree is a substantial, well-rooted specimen ready for instant impact in larger landscapes, estates, or rewilding projects.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

  • Sunlight: Full sun is best—6–8+ hours daily fuels steady canopy development and strong branching.

  • Watering: Moderate during establishment, then very drought-tolerant. Water deeply but infrequently once mature.

  • Soil: Adapts to sandy, loamy, or clay soils. Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil but is highly tolerant.

  • Fertilizer: Not usually needed. Light feeding in early spring can help young trees during establishment.

  • Growth Habit: Massive, wide-spreading canopy with thick, sturdy limbs. In a 65-gallon pot, expect 10–12 feet tall. Can reach 40–80 feet tall and wider with age.

  • Temperature: USDA Zones 7–11. Extremely hardy in South Florida and tolerant of salt, wind, and occasional flooding.

  • Maintenance: Low. Prune during dormancy to shape or remove weak limbs. Allow plenty of room to grow.

Foliage & Bark Notes:
Evergreen in South Florida, with leathery, dark green leaves and deeply furrowed bark. In cooler climates, may briefly drop older leaves in spring as new growth pushes through.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:
Native Americans historically used bark infusions for antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Today, Live Oak is valued more for its ecological and shade-giving power than medicinal use.
