DETAILS AND CARE

Catalina Mango Tree in 7-Gallon Pot Available in Jupiter, FL

Big, bold, and bursting with tropical flavor, the Catalina Mango (Mangifera indica 'Catalina') is a prized late-season variety that delivers hefty fruit with smooth, fiberless flesh and classic Caribbean sweetness. Known for its generous size and rich, floral taste, this variety hails from Puerto Rico and has quickly gained popularity among South Florida mango enthusiasts for its beauty, productivity, and strong disease resistance.

Sold in a 7-gallon pot, this young tree is already well on its way to becoming a flavorful fixture in your foodscape or edible garden.

Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):

Sunlight: Full sun—at least 6 to 8 hours daily. More sun equals more flowers, more fruit, and better flavor.

Watering: Moderate. Water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid constant wet feet, especially in containers.

Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil enriched with compost. Avoid areas prone to standing water. Raised beds or slight mounding is beneficial.

Fertilizer: Apply mango-specific fertilizer 3–4 times per year. During bloom and fruiting, supplement with potassium and micronutrients for better fruit set and flavor.

Growth Habit: Upright and spreading. Reaches 20–30 feet tall in-ground. Can be maintained at 10–12 feet with annual pruning. Trees in 7-gallon pots typically measure 3–4 feet tall.

Temperature: USDA Zones 10–11. Heat-loving and humidity-tolerant. Young trees should be protected from cold snaps below 35°F.

Maintenance: Moderate. Prune lightly after harvest to maintain size and improve airflow. Copper fungicide may be used preventatively during wet seasons.

Harvest & Seasonality:

Planting Time: Best planted in spring or fall in South Florida, but can be installed year-round with care.

Harvest Time: Typically July through September, making it a true late-season gem.

How to Harvest: Pick when fruit begins to change color and ripen off the tree at room temperature. Catalina mangos are known for holding well on the tree without over-softening.

Seasonal Notes: Ideal for extending the mango season when earlier varieties are done. Pairs beautifully with early producers like Sunrise or Fairchild.

Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:

Catalina mangoes are high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, beta-carotene, and dietary fiber. They support immune health, eye function, and digestion, and offer a deliciously hydrating tropical treat. Their antioxidant-rich profile also supports skin and cellular health.

Ideal For:

  • Late-season mango harvests
