Butterscotch Sapodilla Tree in 7-Gallon Pot Available in Jupiter, FL
The Butterscotch Sapodilla (Manilkara zapota ‘Butterscotch’) is one of the most highly regarded premium dessert-quality sapodilla varieties available. True to its name, this exceptional fruit delivers intensely sweet, rich butterscotch, caramel, and brown sugar notes in every bite. While the fruit is smaller than some sapodilla types, its extraordinary flavor and silky, fiberless texture make it a favorite among collectors and tropical fruit enthusiasts.
Florida-grown and well-suited to our warm, humid climate, this grafted Butterscotch Sapodilla in a 7-gallon pot is well-established and ready to thrive in your edible landscape or large container.
Care & Growing Info (Optimized for South Florida):
Sunlight: Full sun—6 to 8+ hours daily for strong flowering and fruit production.
Watering: Moderate. Water deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil dry out. Established trees are somewhat drought tolerant but perform best with consistent moisture.
Soil: Well-draining sandy or loamy soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Sapodilla tolerates South Florida’s sandy soils well but does not tolerate standing water.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced tropical fruit tree fertilizer 3–4 times per year. Supplement with micronutrients such as iron and magnesium in sandy soils.
Growth Habit: Compact to moderately vigorous. In-ground trees typically reach 15–25 feet but can be pruned to maintain 10–15 feet. In a 7-gallon pot, the tree is generally 3–5 feet tall and approaching fruiting maturity.
Temperature: USDA Zones 10–11. Excellent heat tolerance but not frost tolerant. Protect from temperatures below 32°F.
Maintenance: Low. Minimal pruning required beyond shaping. Naturally disease resistant and easy to grow with proper drainage.
Harvest & Seasonality:
Planting Time: Best planted spring through early fall in South Florida.
Harvest Time: Mid to late season—typically late spring through summer, with potential for extended fruiting.
How to Harvest: Fruit is ready when it softens slightly and separates easily from the stem. Harvest mature fruit and allow it to finish softening at room temperature.
Fruit Characteristics: Small to medium round fruit with smooth brown skin. Flesh is dark brown, soft, creamy, and completely fiberless. Flavor is intensely sweet with rich butterscotch and caramel notes.
Medicinal & Nutritional Benefits:
Butterscotch sapodilla is rich in natural sugars for energy, dietary fiber for digestive support, and antioxidants that promote cellular health. It also contains Vitamin C and minerals such as potassium and iron, supporting immune and cardiovascular wellness.
