DETAILS AND CARE

America Bromeliad in 7-Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL.

Make a bold botanical statement with the ‘America’ Bromeliad in a 7-gallon pot—a stunning, large-format bromeliad prized for its vivid red-and-green striped foliage and commanding presence. With wide, arching leaves and striking coloration, this cultivar is both a sculptural showpiece and a resilient tropical accent for South Florida landscapes.

Perfect for entryways, pool decks, or shaded garden corners, the ‘America’ Bromeliad adds high-impact color and texture with virtually no maintenance. It thrives in our humid climate and is a favorite among designers for its dramatic flair and architectural form.

Care & Growing Info (Tailored for South Florida):

  • Sunlight: Prefers bright filtered light to partial shade. Too much direct sun can bleach or burn its colorful foliage—morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal. Under palms or in courtyards? Perfect.

  • Watering: Fill the center cup (“tank”) with water and maintain it regularly, especially during dry spells. Water the surrounding soil lightly. Flush the tank every couple of weeks to prevent buildup of debris or pests.

  • Soil: Use a fast-draining, airy mix like orchid bark blended with coarse sand or pine fines. In South Florida's sandy soils, add organic matter to improve structure and hold moisture without getting soggy.

  • Fertilizer: Light feeders. Apply a diluted, water-soluble fertilizer monthly during the growing season (spring to early fall). Mist the leaves or water lightly into the soil—avoid pouring fertilizer directly into the cup.

  • Growth Habit: Grows in a wide rosette, up to 24–36 inches tall and wide in a 7-gallon pot. Leaf color intensifies with age and proper light, showcasing its signature red striations.

  • Temperature: Best in USDA Zones 9–11. Perfectly adapted to South Florida’s heat and humidity. Protect from temperatures below 35°F—cover or bring indoors during rare cold snaps.

  • Maintenance: Practically care-free. Remove old leaves or spent blooms. After flowering, the mother plant will produce “pups” that can be separated and grown into new showpieces.
