DETAILS AND CARE
Alcantarea Odorata Bromeliad – 25 Gallon Pot available in Jupiter, FL.
The Alcantarea odorata bromeliad is a stunning architectural plant that brings dramatic tropical flair to South Florida landscapes. This eye-catching species, part of the Bromeliaceae family and the plant class Liliopsida, is prized for its silvery-green, arching foliage and its impressive size. Capable of reaching up to 3–4 feet tall and wide, it creates a bold focal point in gardens, containers, or mixed tropical plantings.
Native to the mountainous regions of Brazil, Alcantarea odorata is incredibly hardy for a bromeliad and performs exceptionally well in South Florida's warm, humid climate. While it can take years to bloom, the eventual flower spike can grow over 6 feet tall and is fragrant, attracting pollinators and adding further interest.

Sunlight Needs:
Best grown in full sun to partial shade. In South Florida, it appreciates morning sunlight and protection from harsh afternoon rays. Too much shade can reduce foliage vibrancy and slow growth.
Watering Requirements:
Moderate watering is ideal. Water should be directed into the central cup formed by the rosette, which should be kept filled with fresh water. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy, and ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Soil Preferences:
Prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soil enriched with organic matter. A mix formulated for bromeliads or succulents works well. It’s important that the root zone never sits in water.
Fertilization:
Use a diluted liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season. Apply directly to the cup or lightly to the soil. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause leaf tip burn.
Pest & Disease Resistance:
Generally pest-free but can occasionally attract mealybugs or scale. Regularly flush the central tank with clean water to prevent mosquito breeding and debris buildup.
Pruning & Maintenance:
Minimal care required. Remove old, damaged leaves from the base. After flowering, the main plant may die back, producing offsets or “pups” that can be separated and replanted.
